CHARACTERISTICS
PACKAGE

BK-StirolFix 1 is a mineral flexible adhesive with a polymer-cement base, intended for bonding polystyrene boards (EPS boards), graphite polystyrene boards (EPS G boards), extruded polystyrene boards (XPS), and mineral wool boards (MW boards) onto solid facade surfaces, as well as for embedding reinforcement mesh and leveling the entire facade surface. BK-StirolFix 1 is used as an adhesive for bonding and as a base layer, i.e., reinforcement adhesive within both Bekatherm thermal insulation systems (Bekatherm Standard system with EPS insulation boards and Bekatherm Prestige with MW boards).

Preparation and application :
The preparation of the mixture is done by gradually adding the powder to approximately 26-28% water (6.5-7 liters of water for 25 kg of powder), constantly mixing with an electric mixer until fully homogenized. Allow the mixture to stand for 10 minutes, then mix again and add water if necessary to achieve the appropriate adhesive consistency. Before starting to bond the boards, an aluminum starter track is installed, onto which a certain amount of adhesive is applied to ensure sealing from below, and then the first row of boards is laid on it. When bonding EPS and XPS boards, the prepared adhesive is applied around the entire perimeter of the board with the addition of three application points in the center, approximately 10 cm in diameter, known as adhesive cakes. The perimeter strips should be applied with a minimum width of 5 cm and a thickness of 1.5-2.0 cm. The second row of boards should be placed with an offset of at least 30 cm relative to the starting boards of the first row, known as the staggered joint rule (this rule should be followed for all subsequent rows as well). The stepped joint rule must be followed at the building corners (cross-bonding of the boards) with a board overlap at the corners of at least 5 cm over the outer surface of the EPS or XPS board from the adjacent side. Boards should be bonded tightly to each other so that the adhesive does not get onto the contact surfaces between two boards. Any gaps should be filled with pieces of EPS or XPS boards or with BK-Pur Eps Kleber foam, not adhesive. When bonding MW boards, it is necessary to coat the entire surface of the board with a thin layer of adhesive. The adhesive is then applied around the entire perimeter of the MW board with the addition of three application points in the center, approximately 15 cm in diameter, known as adhesive cakes. The perimeter strips should be applied with a minimum width of 5 cm and a thickness of 2.0-2.5 cm. The same rules mentioned in the part on bonding EPS and XPS boards should be followed during further work. Due to the weight of the mineral wool, it is recommended to bond the first row of boards on all sides of the building, and then proceed to bond the second, third, and subsequent rows in the same manner. Boards should be bonded tightly to each other so that the adhesive does not get onto the contact surfaces between two boards. Bonding boards around openings requires special attention. It is necessary to trim the boards to avoid overlapping opening lines with board lines. The drying time of the adhesive under normal conditions (T=+23-25 ºC, 50-60% relative humidity) is 48 hours, after which you can proceed with doweling, trimming excess boards at the building corners, and sanding any unevenness, either manually with appropriate tools or mechanically using a giraffe sander. Doweling is performed to further secure the boards and is done at joint points and in the middle of the board (optimally 6-10 dowels/m² depending on the building height, wind exposure, type of insulation boards, etc.). In the case of bonding MW boards, doweling is a mandatory step. Doweling should be done through the adhesive layer so that the dowel head is level with the board. To prevent possible diagonal cracks at the corners of the openings, prior reinforcement of the opening corners is required before starting to reinforce the entire facade surface. Reinforcement is carried out using pieces of glass mesh approximately 30x50 cm in size, which are placed diagonally at the corner of the opening and bonded to the board surface with the reinforcement adhesive. Before starting the reinforcement, additional strengthening of critical areas, such as the building corners and edges around openings, must be done using appropriate corner profiles. The profiles are pressed into the previously applied adhesive layer, and then an additional layer of adhesive is applied over the entire profile to level it. After a minimum of 48 hours from the bonding of EPS/XPS/MW boards under normal conditions, the reinforcement mesh can be pressed into the entire facade surface. In the case of MW boards, a thin layer of adhesive must first be applied for impregnation, and after it dries, the reinforcement layer is applied. The adhesive is applied with a notched trowel (tooth depth of 8-10 mm for EPS and XPS, 10-12 mm for MW), and then the reinforcement glass mesh is pressed into the freshly applied adhesive from top to bottom, with a mandatory overlap of the mesh edges by at least 10 cm. The mesh should be pressed so that it remains visible and not fully covered with adhesive. After 24 hours of drying, the final layer of adhesive is applied for smoothing the facade surface. The total thickness of the final adhesive layer should be 4-5 mm for EPS and XPS boards, and 5-6 mm for MW boards. During all phases of work, the wall plane should be checked using a straightedge 2-3 meters long. Special attention should be paid to the creation of the final layer, as irregularities in the form of unevenness make it difficult to apply the finishing plaster and prevent the achievement of a satisfactory texture. The air and substrate temperatures during installation should be in the range from +5 °C to +30 °C. Do not work in direct sunlight, wind, fog, or rain. High humidity and low temperatures may extend the adhesive drying time.
