Long-lasting wood protection with the Bekament PROTECTART product line

The use of wood as an eco-friendly material in construction is part of our tradition, as well as modern trends. The construction of prefabricated wooden houses is becoming increasingly popular, especially near major urban centers. On the other hand, DIY tips offer the opportunity to create a harmonious and authentic atmosphere in the home. The purpose and durability of wooden elements can only be extended with the application of a quality protective coating. Without proper and timely wood protection, elements quickly lose their functional value. Excess moisture leads to dimensional instability of the wood. Weather conditions damage the wood, causing it to age under the influence of sun, dust, and wind. To enjoy the charm of our homes and gardens, we need to maintain and protect them regularly from external influences. But the question arises: what is the best wood coating? Should you choose a transparent or opaque coating? What is the difference between oil-based, nitro, and water-based coatings? Which coatings should be used outdoors and which indoors? To provide answers to these many questions, this blog will give you a detailed introduction to the basic types of coatings for the protection and decoration of wood, their differences, and areas of application. We will explain the importance and significance of proper and timely wood protection. We will also cover impregnations, primers, and finishing coatings for wooden surfaces. So, we will introduce you to the Bekament PROTECTART product line.

This is important to know

For the proper treatment and selection of suitable products for protecting wooden surfaces, it is first necessary to consider whether the treated surface is located indoors or outdoors. Outdoors, wood needs to be protected from influences such as temperature changes, rain, snow, and sun. Indoors, wood needs to be protected from moisture and insects, as well as from mechanical impacts and wear. Depending on their base, wood coatings can be oil-based, nitro-based, or water-based. In local practice, oil-based coatings are most commonly used (especially outdoors) because they are flexible and resistant to moisture. For interiors, water-based coatings are recommended because they are environmentally friendly, odorless, and not harmful to human health. Both indoors and outdoors, nitro-based coatings can also be used, whose main feature is fast drying. The choice of wood coating depends on the type of wood and its natural resistance to various influences such as water, moisture, dust, mechanical damage and wear, UV rays, and whether the wooden surface being protected is located indoors or outdoors.

With the correct selection and combination of products at your disposal, you have the option to renew old or protect new wooden surfaces. Bekament is always here for you. Depending on the purpose, there are products for wood impregnation, primers for topcoats, transparent coatings (lasers), wood topcoats (enamels), and specialty coatings. Depending on the case, these products can be applied with a brush, roller, or spray in one or more layers. During application, it is necessary to carefully follow the manufacturer's instructions. But, which product serves which purpose?

Wood Impregnation

BK-Protecta is a liquid biocidal agent (primer) with a water base that provides deep protection for wood against mold, mildew that causes discoloration, and wood-boring insects. The primer also regulates the moisture content in the wood and ensures good adhesion of subsequent coatings. It can be used to protect wooden surfaces outdoors, specifically those not in direct contact with soil or water. As such, the primer is suitable for use on wooden facades. It is also applied to joinery, wooden garages, shutters, pergolas, benches, or terrace fences.

Primer for Top Coating

BK-WoodPrime Classic is used as a base on wooden surfaces before applying oil-based topcoats. Additionally, there is BK-AquaPrimer, an eco-friendly wood base coat used as a primer before applying water-based topcoats.

Transparent wood coatings (lasures)

Depending on your requirements, you can choose between BK-LasurClassic, a thin-layer coating, or BK-LasurGold, a thick-layer coating. These oil-based lasure coatings are designed for the protection and decoration of wood both indoors and outdoors, offering a wide selection of ready-made shades. Additionally, our portfolio includes BK-AquaLasur, a water-based transparent coating for decorative wood protection. The combination of resins and wax gives this coating optimal protection for wood against UV rays, moisture, and other external influences. BK-AquaLasur also offers the possibility of tinting in numerous shades, alongside the available ready-made shades.

Opaque wood coatings (enamels)

BK-EmajlClassic is a universal alkyd enamel coating on an oil base. It can be used for wood protection both indoors and outdoors. It is recommended for protecting construction woodwork, fences, gates, wooden structures, or staircases. BK-EmajlClassic is available in 20 ready-made shades. BK-AquaEmajl is a universal water-based topcoat for wood. It is suitable for decorating and protecting wood in both exterior and interior spaces. This coating can be tinted according to the RAL color chart. BK-NitroEmajl is a universal nitro-based coating intended for the protection and decoration of wooden surfaces indoors, while for outdoor use, it is recommended for surfaces not directly exposed to weather conditions. BK-NitroEmajl is available in 17 ready-made shades.

Special purpose (protection against water and moisture)

If you want your wood to be resistant to water and moisture, we recommend BK-Marine, a high-gloss boat varnish. This clear coating is designed to protect wood in areas where it needs to be resistant to water, mechanical, and atmospheric influences. This wood varnish is ideal for boats, decking, paneling, fences, and outdoor woodwork. To preserve structures entirely made of wood, such as log cabins and prefabricated houses, and to ensure the longevity of wood, wooden surfaces, furniture, and joinery, proper and timely protection is crucial. Oil-based, nitro-based, or water-based coatings will significantly extend the lifespan of treated wood exposed to weather conditions and daily use. With high-quality and reliable products, you will enjoy your home and property for many years.
